OpusLaw Is Now Installable — Use It Like a Native App on Any Device
We built OpusLaw for the way lawyers actually work — on the go, between meetings, at the courthouse, on the train. Our analytics show that over 90% of OpusLaw visitors access the platform from a mobile device. So we asked ourselves: how do we make that experience even better?
Today, we're rolling out Progressive Web App (PWA) support. You can now install OpusLaw directly to your phone's home screen and use it exactly like a native app — no App Store, no Google Play, no downloads, no updates to manage.
What Changes for You
Fullscreen Experience
When you open OpusLaw from your home screen, the browser chrome disappears. No URL bar, no tab bar — just your legal tools taking up the full screen. On a typical phone, that's roughly 110 extra pixels of vertical space. When you're reading a 50-State Survey result or reviewing a contract analysis, that space matters.
Faster Load Times
OpusLaw now caches key assets on your device using an intelligent caching system powered by Google's Workbox. Static assets like fonts, icons, and interface code load instantly from your device instead of waiting for the network. Pages you've visited before load significantly faster on repeat visits.
Offline Awareness
If you lose connection — in a courthouse elevator, on a subway, or in a rural area with spotty service — OpusLaw will show you a clear offline page instead of a generic browser error. The moment your connection returns, you're right back to work.
Automatic Updates
Every time we ship an improvement, your installed OpusLaw will detect it and prompt you to update. One tap and you're on the latest version. No app store review delays, no manual updates.

Why PWA Instead of a Native App?
We considered building native iOS and Android apps. But for a legal SaaS platform, a PWA is the better choice:
- No app store gatekeeping — We ship updates the moment they're ready, not when Apple or Google approves them
- No 30% platform tax — Your subscription dollars go toward building better legal tools, not app store fees
- Single codebase — Every improvement we make is instantly available on every device
- No storage bloat — OpusLaw doesn't take up hundreds of megabytes on your phone like a native app would
PWAs have become the standard for modern SaaS in 2026. Companies across industries are adopting them for the same reasons — faster iteration, broader reach, and a better user experience.
What's Under the Hood
For the technically curious: OpusLaw's PWA uses Serwist (the modern successor to next-pwa) with Google Workbox for service worker management. Our caching strategy uses three tiers:
- Cache-first for static assets (JS bundles, CSS, fonts, icons) — instant loads
- Network-first for pages — always fresh content, with cached fallback if offline
- Stale-while-revalidate for everything else — fast response with silent background refresh
We generate a precache manifest at build time that includes every content-hashed asset from our Next.js build, so cache invalidation happens automatically on every deploy.
Try It Now
Head to opuslaw.org on your phone and install it. The entire process takes about 10 seconds. Once it's on your home screen, you'll wonder why you ever used it in a browser tab.
